Our road safety advice for a secure journey
Take a break every two hours |
Fatigue and drowsiness are responsible for 1 deadly accident out of 3(Asfa 2005). Avoid travelling when tired and take a 15-minute break every two hours. The 286 rest areas of our network are at your disposal.

Adapt your speed |
The maximum speed on motorways is 130 km/h, reduced to 110 km/h if it is raining. It is important to adapt your speed to weather and traffic conditions and to adopt a supple driving.
| |
Keep your distance |
To avoid accidents due to emergency braking, keep your distance from the vehicle driving before you. Respect minimum distances and adapt your driving to traffic conditions.
| |
Check tyre pressure |
Under-inflated tyres are responsible for 1 deadly accident out of 30 on motorways (Asfa 2005). With under-inflated tyres your vehicle uses more petrol and thus pollutes more. Therefore, it is important to check your tyre pressure every month. 28 Michelin stations are at your disposal near the main toll posts.

Make sure your car top load is safely fixed |
It is important to make sure your car top load is balanced and safely fixed. Remember, a car top load can exceed 3m in the back but never in the front of your vehicle. Be also careful with the belongings you choose to transport inside your car- emergency braking may turn them into dangerous projectiles

Wearing a seat belt saves lives ! |
Wear your seat belt in the front seats, but also in the back! Over 500 lives would have been saved in 2005 by this simple act (DSCR 2006).

The proper reflexes when you break down |
If possible, try to reach a safety area, available every two km and equipped with an emergency phone allowing you to call for help 24h/24. Do not use your mobile phone- it does not help locate your position. All passengers must remain behind the crash barrier.

At toll posts, watch out for people crossing |
Our team members can be crossing the road at toll posts at any time, so for the safety of all, drive slowly and be careful.

In need of assistance ? |
Do not leave your vehicle if you need assistance at toll posts. Use the “aide” button of the payment booth on your left.

Do not put roadwork teams in danger |
Every year, 900 workers in yellow intervene on 100,000 roadwork operations destined to ensure your safety. To avoid putting them in danger, drive safely: lower your speed as soon as you see workers in yellow and don’t drive too close to them.
